QUALITY ASSURANCE

Quality starts with clear requirements.

Material, dimensions, surface condition and inspection records should be defined before production. The inspection scope is confirmed against the drawing and the agreed delivery condition.

DRAWING & ACCEPTANCE

Agree what will be checked.

Bicasting’s company introduction identifies quality control personnel and casting engineers as key members of its team. For each project, a clear specification gives that work a practical reference.

A drawing should identify the controlled features, required material and finished condition. Where a requirement refers to a standard, state its designation and the applicable acceptance criteria.

Inspection methods, sampling, reports and any additional testing are agreed for the component. Special requirements should be identified when the enquiry is submitted.

Discuss inspection requirements

Before production release

  • Confirm the approved drawing and its revision.
  • Identify the material grade and delivery condition.
  • Mark critical features and the inspection stage.
  • Agree the acceptance criteria and required records.

FOUR REQUIREMENTS TO DEFINE

An inspection plan for your component.

01

Material & condition

Specify the gray iron, ductile iron, carbon steel or alloy steel grade. Identify any composition, mechanical property or treatment requirement and the records needed to demonstrate it.

Project agreement: material reference, delivery condition, testing and documentation.

02

Dimensions & interfaces

Identify datums, fits and critical dimensions. Distinguish as-cast features from machined features, and state the condition in which each measurement is to be taken.

Project agreement: tolerances, measurement method, sample quantity and reporting.

03

Surface & function

Define acceptable surface condition, cleaning and finishing. If internal soundness, sealing or another function requires a specific test, state the test conditions and acceptance criteria.

Project agreement: controlled areas, finish, any additional tests and acceptance limits.

04

Identification & records

Set out any part marking, batch identification, inspection report or material document requirement. Include protection and packing needs for transport and storage.

Project agreement: required records, identification, packing and shipment release.

FIRST SAMPLE TO DELIVERY

Keep the specification consistent.

Sample review should use the agreed drawing and inspection criteria. Record any approved changes before subsequent production, including changes to geometry, material, finishing or testing.

For enquiries with a certification requirement, include the required standard, scope and documents. Applicability must be confirmed for the project.

Include quality requirements in your enquiry.

Share the drawing together with the features that matter to fit, function and service. Clear acceptance criteria help establish the right manufacturing and inspection scope.
